Created to celebrate a circle of friends at Valentine’s day, hearts can be given at any time of the year – to friends, to family, as a special gift even for yourself. Made of wire and painted a deep blue-red, the hearts are approximately 5 x 5 inches, a nice size for placing in the hand of a loved one.
All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind so if you are interested in purchasing a heart rest assured that you will get an original.

wire men

My first projects were these little twelve-inch men made of wire. As time progressed I played around with the idea of capturing movement, and freezing it and my sculptures continued to grow in size. All of my current works are life-size.

Before my fascination with wire began, I did lots of drawing. I’d fill up sketchbooks, creating pencil drawings of people I’d see on the bus, at the bus stop, in a coffee shop, in passing each day. I began to go further with my love of drawing as I worked with oil pastels on paper. I collected photographs to work from, drawing pictures with the goal of capturing emotion and facial expressions. This drawing was one of the last works with oil pastels before my focus moved primarily to wire works.

leaping man

My inspiration for this piece came from a photo of Bill T. Jones, a dancer. This piece was exhibited in a performing arts- dance production. It is my only male form in all of my artwork. It definitely requires a large space for the best effect. The arms span the length of a twin bed. I could barely get it out of the room I created it in! The pictures barely do it justice in terms of seeing the detail involved...
I went crazy working on this piece. It took me between 120-140 hours to create this life size man. I became obsessed with the man's back. I have muscle definition and have captured the various curves of the body flexing.

This dress was very experimental in that I took time thinking about where to place the wire rather than simply following my natural instincts. In the end, I prefer to go with my intuition...

I really enjoy creating shoes that exude a certain attitude. While creating them I must laugh at the irony of hard, binding wire- twisted and manipulated into something that is completely confined …
The very thing I have imitated, I find funny, outrageously unrealistic to wear, and yet at the same time sexy, something to be envied (maybe because you know the person who chooses to wear them must be full of spunk) and just pure fun!

In completing this dress, I was reminded of all of the old classic movies in which stars like Elizabeth Taylor & Natalie Wood, ran through glassy fields barefoot, drank lemonade on wooden porches, and fell in love and had their hearts broken all in one summer.
