I'm busy...

Yesterday I had to drop off a piece for the group show for open studios. The piece in the youtube video is the one I dropped off. In less than 2 minutes you can see what I have created. Somehow the sound was lost in the upload so the lovely John Coltrane track I'd added is gone. Yet, even still – ENJOY!

experience my day

I went over to my friends live/work loft to see the walls I will be using for this years big open studio show. My time at the building was pleasant as I hung out with an artist named Jennifer. After I saw the space I will be using we hung out in her studio and she showed me some of the paintings she's working on. My friend John arrived at his place and I ended up seeing some of his latest work too as well as his new camera. We all talked about what we are working on and the creative process and it just felt really GOOD. In some ways it reminded me of this video (below). The look of the studio spaces - all junky and with so many works in progress, the way we shared with one another - all of it comes to mind when I see this video. It makes me happy - like wow, this is my life...

{sigh}

It's been a rough day. I spent most of the day focusing on PR efforts for my show. At the same time I have been feeling kinda depressed and wondering if my efforts will pay off. I think I'm pushing when I probably should just trust, breathe, and pray. I'm also catching a cold, which doesn't help my mood...

ordinary day

It's been a strange day. Today was low key and a bit blah as I regroup from the opening this past weekend. I'm daydreaming about open studios next month and today I found this magazine page in a drawer. Maybe it will work it's way into a sculpture... we'll see. I love the idea of creating aspects of movement!

five senses no.62 (but on a Saturday)

HEAR
- me giving directions to two women , telling them which bus to take to Golden Gate Park
- Lenny Kravitz's new album
- a teenager telling her friend how she and a bunch of kids got drunk last weekend. "We all went to Alex's house. We were so messed up! We took turns throwing up. Now just the smell of alcohol makes me want to throw up!"

SEE
- a line of immigrant day laborers waiting and hoping someone will pick them up
- a gray haired man with long gray hair and an even grayer beard driving a vehicle the size of a greyhound bus that looked like a ship on wheels. He looked like a pirate on dry land.
- an Asian woman in jeans and a gray hoodie wearing really ornately beaded sandals with brass beads and clear jewels. The way she sat and held her feet was elegant like one a traditional dancer from Thailand
- a girl wearing a swatch watch and a slouch sweatshirt like Jennifer Beals in Flashdance along with black leggings. 80's!
- a woman looking like the white witch from Narnia is proof that not everyone can be a platinum blonde

SMELL
- funky, sweaty, smelly boys on the bus coming from school
- food burning

TASTE
- spaghetti
- bartlett pears
- peanut butter cookies
- ginger ale

FEEL
- nervous about today's art opening
- an ongoing ache in my knees
- hopeful, excited
