I remember drawing this during a time when I was fascinated with sepia colored photos. This was also a time when the world seemed to be a very confusing place and therefore other people who seemed deep in thought or struggling to grasp life's complexities stood out to me. I have found drawing to be incredibly theraputic.

I was not fearful or timid in my use of color and at the same time I was able to capture the many colors within a person's complexion. While this woman is singing the blues, there is also a certain beauty that springs forth in times of pain and struggle…
